solar radio setup

here is my solar radio setup for contests (almost), I have a way bigger battery that I use for the radio contests, but it is heavy and I did not drag it out for the pictures,
but the tiny battery did do just fine for the afternoon

I could not get it all in one picture, so here is the battery and charge controller

here is my solar panel, I also have a 40W panel, but it really does not seem to be needed
and my J pole antenna made out of twin lead

I put power pole connectors on everything so that it would be easy to change configurations

and lets me add more things easy,
like a fan to keep me cool (it pulls only 0.3 amps)

and here it is from far back, I am trying to keep everything but the solar panel in the shade so that none of it overheats

here is the charge controller, it keeps the battery from over charging
but if it is broken it would be easy to connect the solar panel direct to the battery

this setup seems to run my radio just fine for remote locations and is very easy to set up

growing grains on a small scale can work very well, and
when I was sold on the idea of growing grains,
I found it very hard to get seeds in a non agriculture area,
so here is where I ended up finding them

I grew one plant of this sorghum and it did very very well
I tend to think sorghum is under used as a home garden grain.

There are cycles of civilization ( look one post previous to this for description ), the really bad part is the crash, so at what point do you try and stop the cycle ?

Complex civilizations do have very good points, but they also are very fragile, they are the last step before the crash.

Farming villages are far from the collapse point but offer little high technology, and that makes some things lots harder.

It likely all comes down to your trade network size, the bigger your trade network, the better technology you will have, the bigger your trade network, the more likely it is to either get control of everyone or to fail.

if you are a farm village and your neighbors decide that they want to take your area, then you may not have the resources to defend yourself...

the right answer may be a moving target... ideas anyone ?

the cycles of civilization

pitfalls of civilization,

the cycles of civilization are very predictable and happen for clear reasons,

first people start building a civilization, they work very hard, then they get things mostly finished at some point.

future generations that then grew up with everything there just expect that the buildings and roads are just always there and expect them to be prebuilt and don't see why things take so much work to set up.

they are the kind of people that will vote for someone that will offer them comfort or free things in exchange for things that they don't see at critical, like a small tax to make sure that no one goes hungry.

after this goes on long enough, corruption and the “free things” that often were voted for or done to make the people happy, are require taxes and control that are just to much for people to deal with,

people stop going to work because they have no real reason to,

if they stop going to work, they will not starve, and what they make at work just gets taken away in taxes, when you get enough people doing that, the system falls apart, and everyone just walks away from that civilization

then they are free to work again and keep all of what they make, but eventually get tired of walking on mud roads and start building civilization back up again.

each person is doing what seems like a good idea at the time,

what is going on is that civilization optimizes for complexity,

and humans can not take infinite complexity

the cycle usually takes 200 to 400 years, but there are exceptions.

so what is the point where people will be the happiest and still be stable ? if we are smart about it we can hold a high comfort level and still not perpetuate that cycle.

I also wrote another version of this and can't tell what version I like more... here it is anyway :

civilizations go through cycles,
they rise and fall.
it is handy to know why that happens,
because when they fall it hurts people,
and with some planning you can keep the failure far in the future.
so it all comes down to 2 factors.
1: civilizations optimize for complexity,
2: people can't take infinite complexity.

when a civilization starts, people keep all of what they make,
and they have no infrastructure,

they will at some point decide to start taxing (labor, money, how ever they do it) and build some infrastructure (like roads, water systems, defenses, etc)

once something is built (let's use the IRS and H&R Block as examples) the civilization wants to keep it (just think of all the people that would be out of work if they were to be eliminated )

at some point, the infrastructure becomes more than the people can afford (it takes time, money, or something to build it all), and then people start to walk away from the civilization because they need to keep more of the work that they do in order to survive.

so people start walking away, and when enough have done it, the civilization crashes and the cycle repeats.

if you look around, you can see at what point your civilization is in that cycle. I think this is handy to know.

as to how to avoid that cycle,
it is very hard because everyone is just doing what seems like the right thing to be doing at the time.
knowing that cycle will help lots,
people will be less likely to vote for (or support) complex or unneeded things if they know where that road is going to end up.

balance is not a trade off

people are a mix of the spiritual world and the physical world.
most people see this as a balancing act in that you must pick one if you want to get very good at it,

a popular example is:
that god tells you that if you devote your life to him, he will give you everything the spiritual world has to offer.
Satan also tells you that if you devote your life to him, he will give you everything that this physical world has to offer.

so most people think about this and either go with one or the other,
some people think that it is a trade off of the 2 of them, and they take half of one and half of the other in order to have balance.

the real answer is that neither one gets in the way of the other,
you can choose 2 of them,
just like you can choose to be a fan of 2 sports teams, nothing is stopping you.

if you look at old spiritual teachings you will see this in action,
the spiritual people would defend themselves physically,

now most spiritual people tell you that you have to be a victim and totally deny the physical world in order to be spiritual. they are wrong.

this idea that you have to be helpless physically in order to advance spiritually is usually offered by people that have lost the physical battles and are just trying a new method to win by appealing to people's emotions

if you deal with topics physically and spiritually at the same time, there is not much that will stop you.

learn how to learn new things

for some people learning new things is easy
for others it is hard, so I have tried to put down how to learn new things effective and fast.

first define what you are trying to learn and figure out where the information is, how reliable is your information source ?
are there other sources ?

find the factors involved, and how they interact.

how deeply have you researched the topic,
is there more to learn ? are there clues that show that there is more information that you don't know ?

can you test the information to make sure it is correct ?
if there are any anomalies, then you know that you are missing something or you are not correct.

fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue

I have been plagued by fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, skin problems and all kind of other health issues that just kept getting worse my entire life.
I looked for years to fix them and failed for over 15 years,

not I am just fine,
and it was a really easy solution.
it was all due to undiagnosed food allergies (or intolerance or whatever you want to call it).
it took a while of testing to figure out what foods were causing the harm,
and now I am fine.

the real trick is to not just put things in groups, like "apple" because there are so many treatments and pesticides and other things that may be added and will not be on the ingredients list.
you have to test each food with each farming and storage method,
and yes, that means that you have to figure out where the food came from and how it was grown.

the only way around the allergy issue in the USA is to make all of your own food from basic raw ingredients of good quality, and with what the food supply is doing, it really looks like you may have to start growing your own grain as well.

the contamination in our food supply is really bad,
the quality of out food today is really bad,
it looks like the genetic engineered food is causing people to have food allergies and is outright harmful to people.
and it just keeps getting worse.
go look up S-510 if you want to see an example of how it is getting worse and required by law to be that way
the USA has already made it not legal in Iraq to save seeds from the plants that they grow and making it not possible for the people to get out of the messed up system that causes bad health and more food allergies, if they already did it there, it can be done here,
so while you still can, get your seeds and learn.

people of the past grew the grain that they ate, and we have separated ourselves from that tradition,
and people growing small grain crops is getting more and more common,
to the point that you can buy the seeds over the internet now.

it may be time to start growing our grain again and not just growing a vegetable garden.

making corn tortillas

so I finally did nixtamalize some corn and make tortillas,

this is the recipe that I followed, but cut in half:

2 pounds clean, dried flour-corn kernels (about 1 quart)
1/4 cup pickling lime (food-grade calcium hydroxide)
3 quarts water

cook for 15 min and then let sit for 4 hours
and then rinse very very well
go find instructions here

I used a flower corn and one pound was one quart in size,
and it did not work out perfect.
the husks just dissolved entirely...
and some of the kernels were out of the water at the end,
so I think that the key here is to use one quart of corn to 3 quarts of water and just ignore the weight of the corn
and maybe the corn should be a dent corn...

so after getting the nixtamalized corn,
I then put it through the grinder and then came up with a damp powder,
it was way to dry to make a tortilla, I tried, but it just crumbled apart,
so I added water not knowing if that would work at all,
and it worked perfect.
so then I pressed out the tortillas and cooked them about one min a side (they were kind of thick)

the end product was good, but I should have set the grinder for a finer setting...

the entire thing was way less scary than I had thought (mainly because I did not get any chemical burns or anything (yay !))

tea in a vacuum chamber

so last night I was trying to make tea to take to work today, and it worked out mostly well,

I made the tea and then poured the almost boiling liquid into a canning jar,
I then put the lid on it, then I got the idea that I should turn it upside down so that the hot liquid would kill off any bacteria or viruses on the lid (I have been sick),
when I did that, the tea forced it's way past the lid and spilled all over while burning me,
so I spun it upright very quickly
at the time it seemed as if the air over the tea expanding was causing me the problem,
so I decided to put the jar in my vacuum chamber to remove the air,
I set the lid on the jar to let out the air but not back in (just like you would if pressure canning),
and closed the chamber up and turned on the pump,

just to let everyone know, if you have almost boiling liquid and then take all the air away,
it starts boiling again very very fast.
it over flowed very fast and made a mess of my chamber,
so I turned off the pump and let the air rush back in to the chamber
then opened up the chamber and pulled out the jar of tea
so I tightened the ring on the lid and turned the jar upside down again
this time it started boiling again but did not spew everywhere,

so I went back and started to clean my chamber out.

the moral to this story is that it is a bad idea to turn a canning jar of boiling liquid upside down
and even a worse idea to put it in your vacuum chamber to get the air out
but it did work in the end and it is very good tea.

I find it funny how the news story of someone trying to blow up an airplane is getting people to call for widespread use of the terahertz scanners in airports,
and the news tells us that the privacy concerns are not that big of a deal,
everyone is being lead in the wrong direction of why they were not being used more than they already are,

they are unsafe for anything with DNA, and the news stories of this are being ignored.

mobile kitchen cart with sink, water tank, and pump added

ok, so I got a kitchen cart,
here is what it should look like when put it together as they say you should.

but I wanted a sink with an independent water system installed in it, so I got some more parts.

my favorite part is the hand pump

I then assembled the cart,
it comes packed flat.

and here it is assembled with my stove and other junk on it.

now time to cut a hole in it and install the sink.

and install the water fill port.

and the rest of the plumbing, I decided to make it drain into a trash bin as there was not much room left for anything bigger and it will be easy to water my plants with the waste water.

here is a close up of the one way valve that makes sure that the water does not go back into the tank when it is not pumping

and a close up shot of the screen to keep bugs out of my vent tube, and if it ever over flows, it will drain into the bin that is used for my drain.

and here it is all done, with my stove packed up on the bottom shelf
yay !

it sure was quite a bit of work,
but now I have 9 gallons of water on tap that is not connected to the city water at all, it rolls around easy,
and it is cute.

next I will be setting up my mini water treatment system to fill it up with, but I am still waiting for parts on that one.

rant about depressed doomers

so, some people are watching the news and are thinking that the world is ending with the economic mess, shifting

weather that causes low food supply, over population, and 2012, ect...
they get depressed and just quit trying,
I can't figure out why that is happening,

I see it like a wave,
if you end up on the bottom of it from not paying attention, you will be crushed,
if you catch the wave, you can end up on top and doing great,
if you just keep going like everyone else, it will hurt, but it will likely not be that bad,
if you give up and quit trying, you will be sure to fail, so why would any one do that ?

I think that it may be that they have not though about it that much.

lets go point by point.

economic problems:
look at places that have had this happen in the past,
people almost always live through it just fine,
yes it is annoying if you have not prepared for it,
but you will in all odds get through it fine,
economic depressions never last that long, things will get better.
if you prepare a little, you can be very well off when it gets bad.

food supply issues:
the price goes up, you will likely loose access to your favorites, but if you are rich enough to have a computer,

you are very likely to have enough money to keep eating,
remember that farmers do well in a depression because everyone still eats, and that means that the farmers will still be there.
once again, if you are ready for it, you will be just fine, because that one week supply disruption will not change your life at all, and if it ever gets to the point where lots of people start dieing, then remember that th more people that go, the more food will be left for you, so a 3 month supply of food will get you a very high chance at survival.

over population:
some people don't want to have kids in this messed up world,
and that is just silly, it has always been a messed up world.
let us say that everyone that is smart and kind enough to think about things like this decide not to have kids, then in one generation you will be left with the same population problem, but then all new generation is from stupid parents, and how is that helping the world ?
anyone that does not value having children will truly vanish from this earth, this is happening to the non religious english speeking people in the USA right now, they are being outnumbered by the hispanic catholic people because they are not having children as much.
if we ever run out of resources from what we are doing, then they will win just by pure numbers even if there is a mass die off.
and to top it all off, can you think of a bigger insult to your ancestors than "Ha Ha I am killing your blood line off by not having children"
so, my point is that if you are smart enough to read the news and see what is going on, then you really should be having children, I am not saying have them like the catholics do, but one or 2 will be perfect, just enough to replace you, and you must teach them how to thrive in whatever world they have to work with.
you can have a great life almost anywhere if you have the right information and attitude, and your children can do the same, don't skip on having them.

as things collapse other things rise,
the amount of opportunities out there are amazing, even in "bad times"
so please look forward to the future, because it really is what you make of it,
so make something good of it, make a happy family and good future for the people around you,
because if you get depressed and give up, you are sure to fail.

oil candle

here is my oil lamp when it is running,
the advantage to this lamp is that it has the
same brightness no matter what the oil level is,
the level is low in this picture,
but you can fill it nearly to the top.

here is another picture, but it is missing its wick
so that you can see the stainless steel screen on the top,
the stainless steel screen is there to protect the
paper towel that is inside the copper tube.
there are slots in the sides of the tube at the bottom
to let the oil into the tube, they were cut with a hack saw
before the tube was welded in place,
but you can't really see them in my pictures.

here is the wick and stainless screen removed,
it is a very old wick and needs replaced.
the new wick is a piece of paper towel that is the
size of a business card and folded to fit in the tube.

here is a new wick installed with no screen yet
and the old wick mostly unfolded in the background.

here it is with the screen installed
and a new wick ready to be lit !
the wick is the cotton end from
a q-tip that has been pulled off.
pour oil on the wick before lighting it.
if you are lighting it with a match,
you will likely need to replace it
every time that you light it as
it is hard to light after it has been used,
but if you have a small torch,
you can light the wick easy and it
will last a month of regular use.

who would have thought that it would have a
label on it after all of the years that I have had it ?

it gets hot in use, so I put it on a metal dish when running.

so other details on it,
the inside of the small tube is about 0.3 inches (8mm) inside diameter, and 0.37 inches outside dia.
the copper end cap is almost 1.3 inches tall, and
1.75 inched diameter.
the stainless screen is very fine, and is the kind that someone would use in a smoking pipe, and smoke shops sell them although you have to trim it to fit the tube.
when I started making them, I had no welder, so I cut the bottom of the small copper tube into 4 sections and spread them out so that so that the tube would stand up in the cap.

they seem to work well mo mater what oil that I put in it,
it burns rancid oil just fine....
the paper towel in the tube will clog up if you use things like extra virgin olive oil that has more solids in it, so run the cheep oil, I have corn oil in mine right now.

I had 3 stores in a row waste my time after work,
everyone of them was because they had changed what they had told me.
2 were closed due to a change in policy that was enacted with no prior notice.
and the other changed its mind about something without calling me to tell me to not bother showing up.
it was a really bad shopping trip.
I was slightly annoyed at the one and a half hour pointless drive and the 4 $ bridge toll
and just wanted to get home,
so I was driving a little fast,
it has been a long time since I have slid my car around a corner with the gas to the floor,
I had forgot how fun it was.
I guess I keep forgetting why I bought that car in the first place,
that car is so very fast and fun to drive.
it is a 2002 subaru WRX in case you are wondering.
I am doing better now.

washing your car with little water

I was wondering how little water I could wash my car with,
so I used a garden sprayer full of water, a spray bottle full of soapy water, a wet wash rag, and a towel.
I sprayed a section with water, then with the soapy water, then washed that area, then rinsed that area with the garden sprayer, and then went to the next section from the top down.

I managed to wash the whole car with only 1.25 gallons of water.
and it was easier than getting out the hose.

ever wondered how to make your own car battery ?
there have been lots of improvements to it over the years,
one of them is to take a high speed rotary grinder and make ridges on the lead plates to increase surface area.

A group of private citizens in San Diego County is planning to file a large-scale lawsuit in federal court against public water districts and challenge the constitutionality of using industrial-grade hydrofluosilicic acid to fluoridate drinking water. Jeff Green, national director of Citizens for Safe Drinking Water in San Diego, told WND, "We are raising funds for a lawsuit that has been prepared for plaintiffs who are asserting their constitutional rights under the Ninth and 14th Amendments to be free of what they term 'bodily intrusions' by a water wholesaler adding an unapproved drug into their water." Specific details about the lawsuit such as names of plaintiffs will not be revealed until the suit has officially been filed. However, Green said the filing parties are private citizens in Southern California who are seeking an injunction against public water districts to stop use of unapproved drugs in the area drinking supply. "They are individuals who will be claiming that they shouldn't be taking an unapproved drug because they already have adverse effects happening," he said. "They already have things like kidney disease, thyroid disease and other health issues that make it important for them to have the right to control what they are exposed to." As WND previously reported, there is growing and fierce opposition to plans to fluoridate public drinking water after shocking new studies that seriously question a practice routine among U.S. municipalities for nearly the last 50 years. Green said many citizens are usually unaware of how dangerous the chemical can actually be. "Most people think that fluoride is what you have in your toothpaste or water, but they are unaware of the fact that Prozac and Zoloft are fluoride products," Green said. "Almost all psychotropic drugs are fluoride products. "Baycol, the drug that was pulled off the market because of muscle degeneration, is a fluoride product," he continued. "Cipro, the product they were going to use for the Anthrax vaccine, was a fluoride product. In Fen-Phen, the diet drug that got pulled of the market, the fluoride in it is what created the thickening of the heart valve. Rohypnol, the date-rape drug, is a fluoride product. If someone goes into surgery, and they use anesthesia gas, they would be using fluorothane or halothane or one of these other fluoride products."

Contrary to popular belief, Green said medical and scientific research indicates water fluoridation does not prevent tooth decay and that U.S. water districts have asked chemical suppliers to make statements that fluoride is effective at doing so. "There's not one chemical supplier in the entire United States that will make that statement," he said. He hopes the lawsuit will send a message to chemical suppliers and water districts across the nation that citizens will not tolerate general poisoning of their water supply with fluoride or a variety of other contaminants. "It's not OK for them to come out and say it's the greatest thing in the world, and then we find hazardous waste that has arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury in it," Green said. "Where did they get the ability to add these toxins? There wasn't anything people voted for, anywhere, that said it was a reasonable implementation of public policy of fluoridation to add arsenic. The levels that are allowable would allow as much as one in every 3,000 people to have lung or bladder cancer over a lifetime of use." Green said donations to support the lawsuit are being made to Keepers of the Well, an organization committed to promoting safe drinking water. The plaintiffs expect to file soon and assert their rights to protect themselves from poisoning. "In essence, we're saying that these water districts may have made a determination that they want to fluoridate; that's public policy, but when it comes down to implementing it and actually pushing a substance that has never been approved by the FDA, they are actually treating people and intending to prevent disease with an unapproved drug."

this Belgian percussion pistol with removable .44-caliber, rifled barrel and folding trigger

first of all, I gave it away, so I do not have it anymore.

I posted a review on the website that I got it from, but it has not shown up yet, so I put my review here.

it is really fun to shoot. you don't need a powder measurer for it, or a patch for the ball. all you have to do is to unscrew the barrel, then fill it up with black powder, then put the ball on top, then screw the barrel back on, put a cap on it and shoot.

it is by far the most fun that I have ever had with a black powder gun.
the ball seems to go a little slow, it only makes it about 1.5 inches into dry rotted wood,
I really want to see what it does to a phone book because that is my standard test.
it is very streamlined and very cute, and I love that the trigger pops out when you bring the hammer back.

it took me a few shots before I did not hit numerous feet above my target,
if you hold it correctly, it hits true to where you point it, it kicks some, but not that bad.

it is just very cute and fun, and low priced for something like that.
I would recommend it to anyone that wants a fun single shot black powder pistol.

Time Is Not linear
time flows from the least consistent timeline to the most consistent timeline.

What does this mean and what can it get me?

· It can keep you from buying bad milk at the store
· It can keep you out of a car accident
· It can get you found when you are lost
· It can get you a smoother flowing life

Let’s learn how to do it!

This is a new way of navigating your world. It is easy once you figure it out, so easy that it works even if you are drunk. Keep in mind as you approach this that it will take a little while to reprogram your way of thinking.

Most people see time as starting at one point and progressing forward with everyone trapped in the present. I was sick of being trapped in the present, so I found a way around being trapped.

First I will tell you how it works, and then I will tell you how to see it from a brain trapped with linear time thinking. Finally I will give examples of how it works, I hope one of the ways will make sense to you, it seems to confusing, just skip to the next section and see if that works better.

Description 1

You do not exist in one place in time, just like you do not exist in one place in space. Mostly you can move around where you want to and the same it true of time.

The reason that people see time moving forward is that time does affect the physical world that we live in. The easy way to make sense of it is to move forward in time.

Another way to look at time is to see it as timelines. A timeline is a section of time.
It can be any section of time. For example when you get up in the morning to when you go to sleep at night. It can be very short. When you say hi to someone to when they walk past you.

It can be any piece of time and for any length. We will be using it for things that we care about, like an event. Examples are going to the store, driving somewhere, the entire time that you own an item, etc.

If you are independent of time, then you should be able to see through time. It can be a little blurry
.
The real trick is learning how to use the feelings and thoughts of the future to your advantage. Many timelines are possible, and you can imagine timelines that are not possible. The timeline that actually happens is the one that is the most probable to happen. It has nothing to do with what timeline that you want to happen.

The way to take advantage of this is to plan a little so that what you want to happen is the most probable. To do this make sure that the timeline that you are planning is the only likely outcome of the situation.

The way to do this has 3 parts
1: Be open to getting messages from the future,
2: Act on the messages you get,
3: Send the messages that you need to get.

Most people try to get the messages and will act on them, but fail to send them.
Some people call this gut instinct, but it only happens because your emotions do not know that they can not see through time. Instead they end up seeing through time.

Description 2:

linear trapped brain method

You must be willing to do this set of things:
· You start on your “event”
· Something happens good or bad,
· You try to send a memory or message to yourself in the past so that you will not do what you just did, or so that you will be sure to do what you just did.

When you are practiced enough, this is what will happen.
· You get a memory of something good or bad
· You act on that memory of the future
· At the end of the event you try to remember (or send yourself a message)

In the past the memory that you originally got at the start of the event will shape what you wanted to happen.

Description 3:

Examples:
Milk: the way most people go about life is to go to the store and get bad milk, come home and find out later.

The wrong way to use time is to go to the store to get some food. You get a feeling that the milk will be bad, but you get it anyway. You get home and find out that you were right when you taste it. There is nothing you can do about it now.

The easier way to do it is to go to the store. When you reach for the milk, in all possible timelines, you get a message from yourself that the milk is bad. What happened is that in the first possible timeline, you get the milk and taste it at home. You then send yourself a message that it is bad.

In the next possible time line, you get a message that the milk is bad while at the store and you do not get it. Then you send the message right then and there that it is bad and not to get it.

This second time line is the one that we want to happen, so all we have to do is to make it the most likely timeline.

Example Keys:

The correct way to do it,
You have stepped out the door and you remember your keys at the last moment,
So you go back inside and get them, then you send yourself a message to remember them.

If you skip the sending yourself the message after you picked up your keys, then you will have not remembered your keys in the first place, this would be a paradox, and because that is not possible, it will never happen, and this leaves you with the most likely timeline of being locked outside without your keys.

I hope that you use this information to your advantage,
I know that this is not directly provable, it is statistically provable, and if you give it a chance, it might really help you with life.

Practice makes perfect, it took me two years before I could send really detailed things and end up in the timeline that I prefer.

I have watched the entire case now including the verdict.
I would have guessed that new times media would have been found guilty with 7 million in damages that were done to SFBG.
I was wrong, they said that it was about 6.3 million.
it was a compromise as reported by one of the jury.
I have no idea how much they will be required to pay (there is a lot more going on), or when, but they were spouting the same nonsense that lost them the case after they lost, so they are just sore losers, they knew what they were doing long ago, they knew that it was illegal long ago,

and now they are saying that it was a manipulation of the court system,

I watched the whole thing, and talked to the people involved, and there was no manipulation, new times is just guilty and slimy and annoying.

I can see how 12 random people will not be to far from the correct answer, I trusted the jury from the beginning.

SFBG VS new times media

I have been watching the TN vs SFBG trial.
I have nothing involved here but the long term stability of my job, so here is what I see without any intentional bias.
new times does not lke sfbg because the owner ( mike lacy spelling ) does not like editorials and endorsing political endorsements (this guy is adamant about his position and used the phrase "I wanted to kill him" (directed at the owner of SFW that he got that paper from) is his testimony).
I don't know about you, but if I ever say "kill" I tend to mean it, and if he thinks that about someone over a way someone runs a paper, it seems like he would have no problem causing 60 or so people(that work at SFBG) to loose there jobs.
it is not a mony issue that he is trying to run SFBG into the ground.
the guy that was running the SFW quit after trying to make it profitable while new times owned it, and it is now clear to me that the reason for all this is not money, its political.
he just is devoted to crushing anyone that deals with a news paper in a way that he sees to be not appropriate, and he has 12 papers to get money from in order to crush the guardian,
as I type, he is saying that that was not his intention, but now he is court, not talking about what he really feels, but he is not saying that he did not hate the SFBG.

I tend to believe the last thing I here, so I really don't know what to think.
what I hope people have not forgotten is that there is a reason for the anti trust laws, and it has to do with money, not anything to do with who hates who, or anything that has to do with your political views or editorials.
things like him loosing co workers to 911 is very sad, but that trauma is no reason to let him use his corporation to run SFBG in to the ground.

the radiator on my car cracked this morning,
just before I got on to the SF bay bridge,

I see this as a miracle,

long ago I worked for radio shack, and I noticed something,
if you give someone 2 choices, they happily chose one, never thinking that neither of the 2 choices were not good for them,
if you give them 4 choices or one choice, they will go away upset without buying anything.

our elections give us one choice, but they hide it as 2 choices (just like I tried at radio shack) so that we will be happy with it.
Ron Paul is the only real choice other than all the others,
I know that the republicans and democrats are a few percent different, but that is it, only a few percent.

not many people are really interested in fixing the problems, they might say that they want to, but they say things like: lets get hybrid cars, not lets make the carpool lanes motorcycle only lanes.
the hybrid cars help 40% minus the energy it takes to make one, and when you add it up, is not really worth it,
the motorcycle solution really starts to fix the problem by using way less energy to make it and way less to run it.

Ron Paul is one of the few that will make real and good changes, not just things that really don't make a difference just to get reelected.

Christmas presents

so, one of my Christmas presents is going
"beep beep" every hour on the hour.
then I started wondering who gave me a watch for Christmas...
later I called my mom and asked her who she thought would give me something that told me what it was right through the shiny paper.
then she admitted that it was her and that it also has an alarm set for 8:30 pm
apparently Rn pressed some buttons on it and my mom did not want to open it to find out how to turn it off, so she wrapped it anyway.
she told me that I should open it early so that I can turn off the alarm and beeping, that is if I could tell what package was doing making the noise.

I just thought this all was really funny and worth sharing.

phone systems

I have noticed that the sound quality of phones has been dropping.
when they came out with digital lines, they made them so that they can keep adding calls to a system, and the sound quality of each call drops each time they add a call.
with how messed up calls are now, I talk to someone and if I use a new word, there is just no way they can understand it no matter how many times I say it.
I am willing to pay for a clear phone call, but no companies are offering it.

some of you might say that I am loosing my hearing or something, but that is not the case,
I remember using my portable ham radio when I first got it, and it sounded worse than the phone, now it is way better than any phone I have used in a long time.

I just want too make a clear phone call.

flash advertisements have annoyed me for a long time now.
if you just did not install flash, then no problem, but then there are things that you miss because you do not have flash capabilities.

its called flash block and its free.
it blocks the flash from running,

normally I don't hurt animals
but the ants are using my kitchen to get to the upstairs apartment and on the way they have covered my kitchen making it fairly unusable.
I tried quite a few things to get rid of them,
a spray bottle and a flame, but the ant vapor gives me a headache,
ajax to wipe away the chemical path that they walk on.
the thing that finally worked is spraying them with the reverse osmosis water that I now have.
it appears to kill most of them in a way that the other ants can tell that there is death all around.
even if it does not get rid of them forever, it has slowed them down lots.

batteries

so,
I have been looking at how much battery technology has changed.
I got out a radio that I have not used in a long time,
and it has a battery pack, it has a really low capacity from what I now expect.
there is an adapter that uses AA batteries that I have for the radio, and it use to last a shorter time than the regular battery pack.
using NImh batteries in the AA adaptor, I am getting 4 times more capacity than what I use to have.

I just think it is strange that the technology has gotten so much better the last 10 years and I managed not to notice.

I know that I always say this, but I forgot how fast my car is.
yes, that means I got it back together.
it could be the lightened flywheel, or
that I have not driven regularly for almost 2 months, but
it is really fast.

I also forgot how slow public transit is,
it took me 25 min. to get to work today, driving below the speed limit the whole way.
it takes me a little more than an hour taking BART and my scooter.

ok, so all the low priced parts are 8 week lead time.
to hell with that.
I found a PPG gear set that has a 1 week lead time, but it is 4 thousand $
I just can't bring myself to do that.

so I ordered parts off a website that has stock parts, and I have no idea how long it will take to get them, but at least the parts are only 300 $
I got a lightened flywheel and red line (75W90ns ?) gear oil as well, so the total was 700 $
not bad...
but who knows when I will get the parts, but they already charged my credit card, so it should be soon.
at least I can stop thinking about ordering parts.

WRX transmission

so, people say on the internet that the input shaft on the WRX is a 2 piece design.
and that the after market ones are stronger because they are a single piece design.
the stock one is a single piece in year 2002 sold in the USA.
it is one single piece from the clutch all the way through and including 1st and second gear.

1st gear is broken, so, I have to replace the whole part.
I will just get a new gearset.

so, I managed to get the transmission out of my car.
and a tooth from 1st gear came out with the transmission fluid.
it was snapped clean off, there was no wear on the surface of the tooth.
so, something is really wrong with it.
at least it was not all in my head.
so, my car is still broken, but I am closer to fixing it.

so, I am going to fix my car,
can't find one I really like new.
the only problem is that subaru seems to have supply problems with the parts.

so, this weekend I tear my car apart to see exactly what is wrong.
and I may have the parts to fix it now, I may have to order some.

if all else fails, I found a company that has a nice straight cut gearset for my car not made by subaru for 4 thousand ( http://www.rallispec.com ), I will decide monday if I am going to get it, or I will find out if I can get them to call me back (they should have called by now)

I can always rent a car, but I am starting not to mind BART and my zappy scooter for the trip to work.

Fluoride supplements, in graduating amounts up to 1 mg daily, are often prescribed to children who don't drink fluoridated water, ostensibly to reduce tooth decay.

"This review confirmed that in non-fluoridated communities the use of fluoride supplements during the first 6 years of life is associated with a significant increase in the risk of developing dental fluorosis, write researchers Ismail & Bandekar and first published in Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, February 1999, (2) but posted to the ADA's website July 2007.

Fluoride ingestion, once thought to reduce cavities, can lead to dental fluorosis -- white spotted, yellow, brown and/or pitted tooth enamel. Modern science indicates fluoride absorbs into tooth enamel topically, primarily.(3)

Studies link dental fluorosis to children's kidney damage (4) and bone fractures (5).

The ADA and Centers for Disease Control recently advised that fluoridated water should not be mixed into concentrated infant formula, in order to decrease dental fluorosis risk -- now a growing U.S. problem. (6)

Never safety-tested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration) (7), fluoride supplements do more harm than good.(8)

"While fluoride is proclaimed a significant cavity reducer, there is little, if any, science to support that," says lawyer Paul Beeber, President, New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation.

A National Institutes of Health 2001 news release supports Beeber's assertion: "... the (NIH) panel was disappointed in the overall quality of the clinical data that it reviewed. According to the panel, far too many studies were small, poorly described, or otherwise methodologically flawed." (9) Over 560 studies evaluated fluoride among those evaluated by the NIH Consensus Development Program panel for the Diagnosis and Management of Dental Caries.

Recent research shows that fluoridation delivers risks with little, if any, benefit.(10)

"Save money, save our health, save the planet. Stop fluoridation," says Beeber.

my 5 gallon water treatment setup for about $40

I have been trying to take the fluoride out of the water.
this is a process that is very similar to what city water plants do.

all the things needed to do this ( bucket, spigot, and chemicals and
test kit) cost about $ 40 and all fit in the bucket very easy, put it
under the sink and click the lid closed, and you have an emergency
water treatment setup. make sure to leave the instructions ( and maybe
a calculator) in the bucket as well.

here is what I tried,
I hope this is not confusing

first you need a container for the water,
I used a 5 gallon bucket.
install a spigot 3 to 5 cm above the bottom of the bucket.
I used a 1/2" MIP to 3/4 hose connector,
then I got a plastic 1/2 MIP nut that is made for sinks.
I got a package of O rings to seal garden hoses,
I got a low priced plastic hose on/off valve,

I drilled a hole in the bucket,
and installed the adapter with the O ring on it, and secured the
plastic nut from the inside of the bucket,
then put on the on/off valve on the adapter sticking out of the bucket.
the parts cost about $ 4.5

now I have a place to treat the water, all I needed was a process.

so, I first fill the bucket with water,
next I carefully measure out the chemicals

first chemical is an aluminum salt
either
aluminum sulfate or aluminum chloride
it binds to all kinds of things

I used aluminum sulfate because it is at orchard hardware supply in
the fertilizer section
about 0.6g of it turned out to be almost 1/4 tsp of course crystals
devolve it in water, then pour it in to the bucket and mix it very well.

now for the next chemical
it should be lime or sodium carbonate

I was suppose to use 0.028g of the chemical, I picked sodium carbonate
because it is at orchard hardware supply in the pool treatment
chemicals section.

it turned out that my water was acidic, so I added more sodium
carbonate than they said, it ended up being almost 1/8 tsp of the
powder total.
your ending pH needs to be 6.5 to 8.5, test kit in the pool supply
section.

so, when you add the lime (Calcium oxide) or sodium carbonate you have
to devolve it first so that you know it is dissolved, then mix it into
the bucket, then mix the water for 20 min. and yes I know that this is
a long time.
then let the particles in the water settle for an hour.

I was suppose to add bleach powder (also a pool supply) as the first
step of the process, but because I was starting with city water, I
skipped this step.

after your waiting time, you can open the spigot and retrieve your
drinkable water, I did not like the after taste, so I filtered it with
my Brita filter and it was good tasting, they recommend a sand filter
if you want to skip the waiting step.

so, how much chemicals should I use for the water I have ?

but first, how so I measure out such small quantities of chemicals ?
the easy way to measure amounts so small that you have no scale for it
is to dissolve it into a known ( and larger) amount of water, then
measure the water out, that way it is easier to get a few mg of something.

they say lime is 1/20th of the aluminum salt, but I think that it
maybe should have been 1/2
good thing you can test the pH to make sure its right.

bleach powder, 3mg/L ~16 L for 5 gallons, so, 48mg for your 5 gallon
bucket.

remember that the point to this method is to eliminate the fluoride,
but you do not have to use it for that.

the aluminum salts amount use this table in the scale mg/L

this table was destroyed by the blogger site,
and I cant get it to come out correctly
good luck figuring out what it should be.

so, my back up plan (no alkalinity tester) is just to put the pH to 7
before I start and then use the lowest Alkalinity chart numbers.

for my test, I just looked up the Alkalinity of the water out of the
tap on the east bay water website.
I need to figure out how to test that number if I am looking to treat
water from a stream or lake.

my thoughts on this is that I think the CRB has the right to do this, but I do not think that they should.

any one remember elvis songs on the radio in the 70s and 80s,

if the CBR wants to kill music, then I think they have the right.

I also think that people will go back to sharing music on tapes, CDs, mp3s and they will do it in person, not over the net.
and there will be more pirate radio stations popping up, the internet killed pirate radio and I kind of miss it.

the news all says "internet radio at risk."
when it is really "copyrighted music at risk of being more expensive than most people would like"
internet radio that just has news or plays non copyrighted music is at no risk,
musicians that put up there own music for free is not at risk.

don't be deceived, and I bet that people are starting to build transmitters and power amps for when the new rules are passed.

so, I finally figured out a way better way to get drinkable water out of the air
use the dehumidifier to get the water.
put it in a tea kettle and boil the water till it smells like water (~5min very rapid of boiling)
then cool it off because the britta type filters can only deal with water below 85 F
then filter it with the britta filter.

very good water using that method.

I will post improvements when I find them, but this one is really good.

to have no fluoride in my water,

step one:
I use a dehumidifier to pull water out of the air,
you can get one at home depot or sears or target for about 250 $
I found this one on line, but it is the most expensive I have ever seen.
you can get them as little as 150 $
but the bigger ones are way more efficient.

step two:
sterilize the water,
I put the water in a one liter bottle, and use a germicidal UV lamp on it.
this is sold as a kit from REI, made by http://www.hydro-photon.com/

at this point the water is drinkable, but tastes very bad, see previous post.

step three:
put the water through a Brita water filter.

now the water is safe, clean, and really quite drinkable.
no more evil fluoride in my water.

and it is all done for only a few hundred $,
way less than the air 2 water people sell a system for,
although they do have an entirely automatic system.

what do you think of this ?
