batteries

so,
I have been looking at how much battery technology has changed.
I got out a radio that I have not used in a long time,
and it has a battery pack, it has a really low capacity from what I now expect.
there is an adapter that uses AA batteries that I have for the radio, and it use to last a shorter time than the regular battery pack.
using NImh batteries in the AA adaptor, I am getting 4 times more capacity than what I use to have.

I just think it is strange that the technology has gotten so much better the last 10 years and I managed not to notice.

my first radio contact

So,
I spent all night trying to make a radio contact, first to a friend near by,
it was just not happening,
so I got my shortwave radio out,
and spent a really long time trying to figure out the correct sideband to listen to.
then I found a clear voice calling on 7.232Hz LSB
"k7zsd dx contest 7058 and my frequency"
it kind of confused me, but I tried to say hi anyway,
he did not here me.
so, I turned up my power to high ( 100W)
then he could here me some,
so then I turned on my power supply in addition to the battery
then he could here me clear and the lights did not dim on the radio when I talked.
he replied with my call sign and the numbers 5 9 30 ?
maybe that last number was a 3, I am not sure.
I thought it was fun
then I found his website (http://www.k7zsd.com/index.htm)to see how far away he was
and it turned out to be
25 miles NW of Portland, Oregon
that is not even in california !
this post is dated with the exact time and date of contact.

entertainment

I thought this was really amusing:

Important FBI Statistics for Your Consideration

1. The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.

2. Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are
120,000.

3. Accidental deaths per physician are 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health and Human
Services)
Now think about this:

1. The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000
(yes, that's 80
million).

2. The number of accidental gun deaths per year among
all age groups
is 1,500.

3. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is
.000188.
Statistics courtesy of FBI)

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000
times more dangerous
than gun owners.
Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS
AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We
must ban doctors
before this gets completely out of hand!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the
statistics on
lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic
and seek medical
attention!

heros

I was watching the TV show heroes,
I don't mind product placement at all.
but they showed a sprint phone working for someone that was suppose to be in ireland or scotland, or something not in the USA, but sprint mobile phones is a USA phone service only.

bad product placement annoys me.

speed

I know that I always say this, but I forgot how fast my car is.
yes, that means I got it back together.
it could be the lightened flywheel, or
that I have not driven regularly for almost 2 months, but
it is really fast.

I also forgot how slow public transit is,
it took me 25 min. to get to work today, driving below the speed limit the whole way.
it takes me a little more than an hour taking BART and my scooter.

I find it amusing that I
keep realizing things, then thinking about it, and remembering figuring it out many times before.

car

I finally have a working car
I wonder how long it will last
it still has an issue with 3rd gear,
and something sounds strange, don't know if it is inconsistent backlash adjustment from the factory that shows up when you install a lightened flywheel ? or is it bad adjustment of the front differential bearings.
I will just try not to drive it to much
and i will try to get another transmission ready for when it breaks.

fluoride in the news yet again

so, it looks like there is not enough data either way to make a decision on fluoride.
the question of weather or not it is forced medication seems to be the biggest issue.
read it here, http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/84666.php
